In the late 1990s and early 2000s, high profile public health events and the fallout of many current public reports emphasized the need to re-examine our public health system to respond to current and emerging issues.
Two clear priorities for public health were determined including:
- Strengthening and stabilizing our public health system; and,
- Developing a competent public health workforce.
